Who should be tested?

Anyone who is the sex partner of a known case
Anyone diagnosed with another sexually transmitted disease
Anyone who has had sex with an unknown or new partner

What are the symptoms?

Open sore (called a chancre) on the face or genital area
Rash on palms of hands or soles of feet
Swollen lymph nodes
Sudden hair loss

Treatment

Antibiotics – the stage of disease determines the length of treatment
The Vanderburgh County Health Department is offering treatment free of charge.

Prevention

Know your sex partner
Use condoms
Abstinence
