For accurate testing results, please drink plenty of water prior to testing!

Who should be tested?

  • Anyone who is the sex partner of a known case
  • Anyone diagnosed with another sexually transmitted disease
  • Anyone who has had sex with an unknown or new partner

What are the symptoms?

  • Open sore (called a chancre) on the face or genital area
  • Rash on palms of hands or soles of feet
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Sudden hair loss

Treatment

Antibiotics – the stage of disease determines the length of treatment
The Vanderburgh County Health Department is offering treatment free of charge.

Prevention

  • Know your sex partner
  • Use condoms
  • Abstinence
